Covered Call ETF List

CoveredRank tracks 28 covered call ETFs listed in the United States. Every fund is scored on six weighted criteria since inception and compared only against funds writing on the same underlying index. This page lists them all, grouped by benchmark.

Why we group by benchmark

A fund writing calls on the Nasdaq-100 cannot be compared meaningfully to a fund writing on international developed equity. The underlying index drives most of the return, and the option strategy drives only the distribution profile. Grouping by benchmark makes the comparison valid.

S&P 500 (SPY) - 14 funds

Nasdaq-100 (QQQ) - 10 funds

Russell 2000 (IWM) - 2 funds

International developed (EFA) - 1 fund

China internet (KWEB) - 1 fund

Inclusion criteria

A fund is included if it is a diversified covered call ETF listed in the United States, writes equity covered calls (not volatility futures, not puts), and is not leveraged or inverse. Five categories are excluded outright:

Why some large funds are excluded

Several widely held funds are deliberately excluded. TSLY and NVDY write on a single stock, which introduces concentration risk incompatible with a diversified covered call strategy. XDTE and QDTE sell 0DTE options with documented NAV erosion. JEPY sells puts, not covered calls. These funds appear on other comparison sites but do not belong in a quality ranking of diversified covered call strategies.
